SUMMARY:This October\, FoGP is Returning to the Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:On Oct. 11\, FoGP volunteers will clear debris from these historic streambeds and tackle more invasives at the Bird Sanctuary in preparation of the coming winter rains. And a quick explanation of why we try to get ahead of invasives is simple: they tend to crowd out natives. We’ve seen first-hand what happens when invasives are removed – natives thrive! \nIf you look along the hillsides\, pockets of caterpillar phacelia are clearly evident up the slopes – an indicator that our efforts have been helpful in returning natives to an area devastated by the 2007 fire. We hope everyone will continue to support our efforts. Don’t forget to bring a friend! \nPlease dress comfortably… old clothes\, comfy shoes\, plus a hat and sunscreen. If you have gloves\, bring them\, although we do have gloves on hand.\nWe’ll provide tools and water (if you bring a bottle\, you can always refill). \nGet ready\, get set\, join the fun and continue to celebrate the uniqueness of Griffith Park!

DESCRIPTION:Thousands of community members across the LA region will come together and celebrate our majestic urban wildlife and the remarkable ecosystems that sustain wildlife\, thriving in the heart of LA’s bustling metropolis. And please note: this event is always free and open to the public. There will be multiple environmental organizations represented at this celebration and we hope everyone will attend and make sure you stop in at Friends of Griffith Park’s booth and check out what our volunteers are up to! Don’t forget to bring the kids\, and remind all your neighbors. \nOnce again\, NWF’s Urban Wildlife Week (National Wildlife Federation) will culminate with the annual P-22 Day Festival – a celebration of the famous Hollywood cougar who catalyzed the movement to construct more wildlife crossings\, not just in California\, but across the country.
